It’s been a long time coming, but it’s finally here!  Aston Teague Acoustic EP is my first release as a solo artist.  I’m extremely excited to release this album because it’s a very personal collection of songs that all mean a great deal to me.  I recorded five of the six songs on this album at Matchbox Studios in Austin, Texas. The 6th song titled “On Our Way” was recorded in my apartment living room.  Writing and producing all the material on this album was definitely a challenge but it allowed me to maintain control of the sound and I was able to go anywhere I felt necessary, creatively.  It has a very acoustic, stripped down sound which is what I was going for when producing the album.  I wanted it to sound like the listener was in the room with me.  I just wanted it to really sound like me!  Thanks to Lance Lane (piano) and Dustin Mattiza (percussion) for the helping me make this album.

Joined At the Soul

This song was inspired by an urge to get my music out to the world.  By writing this song, I was trying to convey to the listener that I was “all ready to go” full speed ahead with my music career.  I was in a very early stage of writing and especially performing but I truly felt like I had found my purpose in life and I was ready to see how far I could take it.  The line “Joined At the Soul” symbolizes to me the power of music and it was an attempt to bring the listeners together, regardless of race, religion, or creed, all to enjoy the love and soul that I try to put into each one of my songs.

First Base

This was definitely the most fun song for me to write because it, unlike the rest of the songs on the album, didn’t really come from any one particular event or experience.  It just felt good, and it really kind of put itself together once I started writing it.  We all know what “first base” means, and that’s usually such a fun time in a new relationship.  I was trying to catch that feeling, all while making fun of the situation at the same time.  I was a bit apprehensive about putting it out, but it really grabbed a hold of me while writing and from the reaction I got from friends and fans I knew that people wouldn’t take the lyrics too seriously.

The Silence

This is my personal favorite song on the album for two reasons.  The first reason is that it’s an actual live recording, meaning that I was playing the guitar and singing the song at the same time.  I didn’t stop to redo or edit the track while recording.  If you listen closely, you can hear me flipping my guitar pick in my hand in the silent parts.  It’s a raw version of what I really sound like after a hard day in the studio.  But the emotion of the song really came through and made up for any vocal blunders in my opinion.  The second reason I like this song so much is because it symbolizes the triumph of getting over something that really hurt you or just getting through a tough time in life.  It was inspired by the realization of that at this very point in my life I’m better off just working on myself in efforts to get to a point where I am ready for a meaningful relationship.

Angel

This is a complete description of a person that truly changed my life for the better.  Within the first few seconds of meeting her I knew that we were going to have a great relationship and I was right.  This is a tribute to one of the most amazing people I’ve ever known and a way of saying thank you for being a part of my life.  I wouldn’t be where I am now, if not for her.  Thank you Abigail!

Elevator Love Song

This was inspired by a moment that I’m sure everyone can relate to.  You’re in an elevator with another person who you find attractive.  You usually don’t say anything to strangers on the elevator but this time you really want to.  Your time is limited because eventually you will both get off your floor and go about your lives.  So you either go for it, or in the case of the song you don’t quite make it happen.  More than anything, it was a really fun idea for a song and I think that most everyone can relate.

On Our Way

The darkest song on the album in my opinion but it still seems to brighten my day every time I perform it.  This song is about the rough times of a relationship. Two people who love each other but don’t quite have it together yet, driving each other crazy but more in love now than the day they met, they are showing a side of themselves that they wouldn’t have shown in the beginning, but all the while are reassured by the strength of their love for each other that someday they will be back in the sunshine.
